Find a Triathlon Coach in Devon
If you’re training for a triathlon in Devon and trying to figure it all out on your own, you’ll know how quickly it gets complicated. Three disciplines to balance, limited time, and a training environment that doesn’t exactly make things easy — Devon’s roads are hilly, open water access depends on the season, and between work and everything else, consistency is hard to hold onto.
Tri-Revolution provides online triathlon coaching for athletes across Devon — from Exeter and Plymouth to Torquay, Barnstaple, Exmouth, Tavistock, and everywhere in between. The coaching is delivered remotely, but it’s built around where you actually train, what your week genuinely looks like, and whatever you’re working towards.
Why Training Alone in Devon Only Gets You So Far
Training in Devon gives you access to some of the best terrain in the UK. From coastal rides along the South Devon coastline to long climbs across Dartmoor and quiet country lanes around Mid Devon, there’s no shortage of variety.
It’s an ideal environment to prepare for events like the Dartmoor Classic, local sprint races around Exeter, or stepping up to middle and long-distance racing further afield.
But having great routes doesn’t always mean your training is moving you forward.
Many athletes reach a point where they’re putting in the hours without seeing consistent progress. Sessions start to feel disconnected; recovery gets overlooked, and it becomes harder to judge what’s actually working. That’s usually where the value of a dedicated triathlon coach becomes clear.
What You Get from a Tri-Revolution Coach
Working with a coach isn’t just about having a plan to follow. It’s about having the right plan, adjusted at the right time, and with the right level of support behind it.
Every athlete that Tri-Revolution works with receives:
- A training plan built around your life – Your schedule isn’t treated as an afterthought. Whether you’re fitting sessions in before work in Exeter or around family life in Plymouth, your training is designed to be realistic and sustainable.
- Ongoing feedback and adjustment – Your training evolves as you do. Sessions are reviewed, data is analysed, and your plan is refined to reflect your progress, not just what was written weeks ago.
- Clear structure across swim, bike and run – Each session has a purpose. Whether you’re preparing for open water swims along the Devon coast or building strength for hillier bike courses, you’ll understand what you’re working on and why.
- Data-informed coaching – Using platforms like TrainingPeaks, your coach tracks performance, monitors fatigue, and adjusts your training to keep you progressing without tipping into burnout.
- Consistency and accountability – Knowing someone is paying attention to your training changes how you approach it. Small improvements add up, and consistency becomes easier to maintain.

How our Triathlon Coaching works
Step 1: Book an Initial Conversation
It starts with a one-to-one conversation with Head Coach Jason Newbery. This is where we get a clear picture of your background, your current training, and what you’re aiming for.
Step 2: Building Your Training Framework
Your coach carries out a detailed onboarding process, looking at your training history, current fitness, and lifestyle. Together, you shape a weekly structure that fits around your routine.
Step 3: Putting the training into action
Your plan is then built and delivered through TrainingPeaks, with each session set out clearly so you know exactly what you’re doing and why.
As you train, your data and feedback are reviewed by your coach. Based on that, adjustments are made so your training keeps moving in the right direction. It’s an ongoing process, not a fixed plan you’re left to follow on your own.
Step 4: Ongoing coaching and support
As you progress, the focus shifts to keeping everything moving forward. You’ll stay in regular contact with your coach through TrainingPeaks, WhatsApp, and scheduled check-ins.
Your training is adjusted as needed, whether that’s around life, fatigue, or performance. The goal is to keep things consistent, avoid setbacks, and make steady progress towards your next race or target.
Why choose a Tri Revolution Coaching?

There’s no shortage of training plans available online. The difference here is how your training is built, managed, and adapted over time.
Tri-Revolution is built around individual coaching, which means we don’t use templates, generic structures, or guesswork. You will be working with an experienced triathlon coach who understands how to apply structure to real-world training. That might mean adapting sessions around hilly Devon terrain, preparing you for coastal conditions, or helping you manage training load when life gets busy.
Everything is shaped around you. Your data, your feedback, and your long-term development.
Who Is It For
Our triathlon coaching works with a wide range of athletes across the Devon area, including:
- First-time triathletes – If you’re new to the sport, having clear guidance from the start makes the process far more manageable, whether you’re entering a local race in Exeter or your first open water event on the coast.
- Athletes stepping up in distance – Moving from sprint to Olympic, or towards 70.3 and Ironman, requires a different level of structure, especially when training includes longer rides across Dartmoor or sustained efforts on rolling terrain.
- Age group athletes chasing performance – If you’re looking to improve times or place higher in your category, coaching brings focus and intent to every session.
- Busy professionals balancing training with life – Many of our athletes are fitting training around demanding schedules. Coaching helps you make the most of the time you have available without wasting sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be based in Devon to be coached by Tri-Revolution?
No. Our coaching is fully online. Athletes train with us from across the UK and internationally. Your location only matters in that we build your plan around the places you actually train.
I’ve signed up for the Croyde Ocean Triathlon. Can you help me prepare?
Yes. Croyde catches a lot of athletes out, particularly on the swim and the run. The ocean swim at Putsborough Sands is a different experience from a pool or a sheltered lake, and the off-road run has real climbing. We build your plan backward from race day with those specific demands in mind, so the preparation is targeted rather than generic.
Devon’s roads are very hilly. Will my training plan account for that?
Yes. If you’re regularly riding around Dartmoor, the South Hams, or the North Devon coast, that terrain is factored into how your training load and recovery is structured. It’s not treated as equivalent to flat-road training.
I’m a complete beginner. Is triathlon coaching right for me?
Yes. A lot of the athletes we work with are coming to a triathlon for the first time. The jump from one sport to three can feel overwhelming, but that’s exactly what a coach is there to manage. We’ll structure your training sensibly, keep it achievable around your life, and make sure you arrive at your first race, whether that’s a Torbay Velopark event or a Tavistock Triathlon, prepared and confident.
I’m based in Exeter, Plymouth, or Torquay. Can you build a plan around my local training routes?
Yes. Your plan is shaped by where you actually train. Whether that’s riding out towards Dartmoor from Plymouth, running the Exe Estuary Trail from Exeter, or open water swimming along the South Devon coast, the specifics of your training environment are accounted for rather than ignored.
How much contact will I have with my coach?
As much as you need. There’s no cap on athlete-initiated contact. Most athletes settle into a rhythm of TrainingPeaks messages, WhatsApp, and a regular scheduled call — but it’s led by what works for you, not a package limit.
How do I get started?
Get in touch via the contact form. We’ll arrange an initial conversation to understand your background, what you’re working towards, and which coach and setup is the right fit for you.
