James Chantler Triathlon Coach

James embarked on his triathlon journey at the age of 12, having already built a strong foundation in swimming. In addition to his triathlon pursuits, he also competed in circuit races and cross-country running, which provided him with a diverse range of athletic experiences. Over the years, James has achieved significant success in the sport, winning multiple British championships at both the youth and junior levels. His talent and determination led him to represent Great Britain at prestigious events, including the European and World Championships, where he competed at both junior and U23 levels.

Currently, James is a professional triathlete, racing across both short and long-course events. His extensive experience has allowed him to transition seamlessly from a youth athlete to a senior competitor, and he is deeply familiar with the challenges that athletes face when making this transition. In particular, James understands the difficulties many young athletes encounter when attempting to step up from youth and junior racing to U23 and senior competition, all while trying to balance their academic studies.

James pursued his academic and athletic development at Loughborough University, where he trained alongside some of the best athletes in the world. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into how elite athletes train, how they interact with their coaches, and what it takes to reach the highest levels in sport. His time at Loughborough further deepened his understanding of the intricate balance between academic commitments and high-performance training.

In 2021, James became a certified coach, having earned a Level 2 qualification with British Triathlon. Since then, he has been dedicated to coaching and mentoring athletes, applying his knowledge and experience to help others achieve their own athletic goals. He is particularly passionate about working with draft-legal youth, junior, and U23 athletes, as he wants to support them in their journey of continuous and steady progression in the sport. James believes in the importance of gradual, sustainable development, helping athletes build a strong foundation that will set them up for long-term success.

James’s broad athletic background, combined with his academic experience and coaching qualifications, enables him to offer a well-rounded and insightful approach to triathlon coaching. His deep understanding of the sport, coupled with his genuine desire to help others succeed, makes him a valuable mentor for athletes at various stages of their triathlon careers.
