Oli Bates Triathlon Coach

Oliver Bates – Triathlon Coach

Oliver has spent 15 years in endurance sport, progressing from elite-level cycling to triathlon in 2021. With just six months of focused run and swim training, he debuted with an 8:53 Ironman and has since earned multiple age-group medals and bike course records. He holds a 70.3 PB of just over four hours.

Certified by Ironman U/ESCI and a qualified sports massage therapist, he combines high-performance coaching with a practical understanding of recovery and injury prevention. This allows him to build training that drives performance while protecting against the setbacks that so often derail age-group athletes.

His coaching is built on communication and data, but his philosophy is simple: the process matters more than the outcome. He helps athletes enjoy the journey so race day becomes a celebration, not a test. His honest, supportive approach keeps training ambitious without losing sight of why we do this.

He works best with age-group athletes who are serious about improving. He has guided beginners to Ironman finishes and experienced athletes to PBs, and is particularly skilled at balancing high-volume training around a demanding work schedule. His greatest strength is delivering athletes to the start line healthy and ready to execute.

Having battled multiple recurring injuries himself, he knows the cost of pushing too hard. He has made the mistakes of training through niggles and sacrificing recovery for volume, so his athletes do not have to. His approach ensures you train smarter, stay healthier, and perform when it matters most.
