Sian Bottley

Sian’s cycling journey commenced at the age of 15, initiated by her dad who encouraged her to try cyclocross on a bike specially procured for the local club’s children. Her first attempt, like many, was far from an immediate triumph—Sian deviated off course and finished last. However, being the only girl, she secured some prize money, motivating her to give it another shot. The following week, she returned to the grid with much greater success, and from that point on, Sian’s competitive spirit took the reins, propelling her into the world of cycling.

Over the years, Sian actively contributed to the local cycling club, assisting and coaching both younger children and older teenagers, imparting knowledge on riding techniques, skills, and tactics. Concurrently, she pursued her coaching credentials through the British Cycling coaching badges.

In her personal racing career, Sian, after a period of adjustment, witnessed substantial progress in her first year out of juniors, under the guidance of Tom Neale, a coach at Ride Revolution even before he officially joined the team. With Tom’s expertise, Sian achieved notable success, winning three rounds of the National Team Series and securing a top 10 position in the National Road Series within a year. Joining Team OnForm for the 2017 season, she continued her impressive performance with five top 10 finishes in the National Road Series and an overall 8th place. Sian also tasted success in Belgium, supported by the Dave Rayner Fund, gaining valuable experience in kermesse racing on the continent.

Transitioning to full-time work, Sian encountered challenges in maintaining her previous training intensity while working in a bike shop. Learning valuable lessons and gaining a new perspective, she redirected her focus towards coaching. Drawing from her racing experience and previous coaching, she began mentoring local girls from her initial club, Bourne Wheelers, and has been coaching ever since. Specialising in coaching young riders and females of all ages, she is equally adept at coaching male riders. Currently serving as the main coach for the 3rd and 4th category section of our Race Team, Sian possesses a comprehensive understanding of racing beyond just fitness—covering tactics, skills, race reading, nutrition, and more. Her patient and approachable demeanor, coupled with her appreciation for balancing training and racing in a busy life, make her an invaluable addition to our coaching team.

In 2021, recognising her expertise, Sian joined our coaching roster. A change in circumstances in 2023 led her to become a full-time coach for us, enabling her to enhance her commitment to racing once again. Embracing the work-life balance of coaching and riding full-time, Sian’s dedication is yielding positive outcomes in both realms.

She is available to riders of all ages, offering expertise in our starter and racing packages.
