Jake Butterworth, PhD — Tri-Revolution Coach

“Exercise physiologist and PhD researcher applying sport science to maximise endurance performance.”

Jake came into triathlon at 18 after years of playing rugby and cricket and quickly developed a passion for endurance sports. A 2:45 marathon runner, Jake has also represented Team GB as an age-group triathlete and has recorded a 4:30 middle distance (70.3) PB along the way.

Alongside his racing, Jake has a strong academic foundation with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and an MSc in Sports Performance at the University of Portsmouth. He then completed a PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Brighton. Now working as a lecturer in Exercise Science at the university, he has extensive expertise in applying sport science to maximise athlete performance — from physiological testing and training zone prescription to nutrition and environmental strategies that optimise adaptation and race-day results.

As a coach, Jake combines science-led insight with first-hand racing experience to deliver personalised, evidence-based training to help athletes achieve their goals — whether that is completing your first endurance challenge, chasing a PB, or stepping up to long-course racing.
